My Story
My name is Brian and thank you for being interested in my story. I started this blog in late 2022 to share my knowledge around working out, staying fit and things I did right along the way...but also learned not to repeat, thinking that it would help some of you that might be on the same fitness journey I was (...and still am).
Where did it all start for me?
I grew up in Germany in the 80’s/90’s. As a child I was the skinny kid all the way through to my teens. I wasn’t a great eater back then and was a disaster at sports. I was blessed with two left feet and two left hands.

My entire childhood I loved watching action movies, cartoons and wrestling… fascinated by the tough guys with the big muscles. I could never imagine to ever look like them, because they just looked superhuman to me.

I also struggled with my body image as so many teens do, because I was the skinny fella who wasn’t the tallest or strongest guy in school.

It was only when I was researching a school project in a bookstore that I came across a bodybuilding book, which changed everything for me. I just had to buy it!

I flicked through that book DAILY for about two weeks, looking at this bodybuilder showing off how to work each body part.

As much as I would have loved to do what he did in the book, I couldn't because I had one simple issue…I didn’t have any equipment at home to train like he did, so I persuaded my mother to let me join the gym when I was 16.

I went to that gym maybe three times….

I was so intimidated by everyone there that I left the third time and never returned.
Prepping for the Army...or so I thought...
I stopped working out after that only to get encouraged again a few years later, when I made the decision to join the German army at 18.
My ambition was not to get big and muscular but to get stronger and just fitter before entering the army, knowing I would be going through hell.

I saved all my money and bought a home gym from a catalog company and started eating anything in sight…pasta, eggs, yogurts and burgers, thinking I am going to put on size.

I completely failed to understand the importance of what I was eating and how much of what food group I was supposed to eat. Finding information around this wasn’t easy back in the 90’s because people didn’t have the internet.

I was relying on what I saw in movies and magazines that I read and pieced together a diet, as well as a workout routine that I thought was going to work.

The result was the same as for many beginners before me…I put on a small amount of muscle, but nothing to shout about and ended up in the army the same way I would have when I first started this process.

So nothing really happened…well, other than getting my ass kicked each day throughout basic training.
How it all finally came together for me.
In my 20s I eventually moved to Ireland where my family is from.
I often found myself thinking how it would be great to grow some muscles and was always jealous when seeing guys who had the body I wanted. I picked up a weight every now and again, but it made no change to my physique, as I was just not consistent with my training at all.

I only really got into weightlifting and bodybuilding when I turned 30 and decided to give up smoking.

I thought it would be a great way to continue to stay on that healthy path I put myself on after giving up smoking and make that change in my life, but mostly my physique I always wanted.

However, compared to my approach in my late teens, I now had the internet and all its fantastic wealth of information about this subject to help guide me.
I took all that knowledge and started working out in my local gym. I made some great friend there and enjoyed working out, to a point were I got obsessed with it, just like I lways have done in the past when I really wanted something...I knuckle down and get to work!
How it's going now?
I am not an expert and neither do I think of myself as one, especially because I made so many mistakes while on this journey…

Many of these mistakes I have seen people repeat…people such as my workout partners… friends… wanna-be fitness celebs on social media and online… So I thought I'd share what I learned along the way.

I have built a physique I am proud of now and am still working on improving it each day.
I am no longer a smoking couch potato that lives an unhealthy lifestyle.

I am active, go outdoors each week for a walk with my daughter, wife and our dogs. We live an active life that isn't just spent in the gym.
The GYM
The time I do spend in the gym is always the same. I workout for at least one hour early in the morning, 6 days a week, between 6am-8am.

It anchors my day and allows me to spend the rest of the day focusing on work, get my nutrition on point and have all the time in the world for the most important thing in my life…my family!

Having a gym in our garage can sometimes be cold and lonely, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who, like me, prefers to roll out of bed, brush their teeth and simply go into their garage or spare room to get a workout in.

Working out early in the morning will also allow you to stay focused on the workout, as there are no distractions in form of emails, messages, or calls that are interrupting your routine at that time!

There are so many benefits to working out in the morning, and from home that I’ll be writing a blog post about this very soon, highlighting what in my opinion those benefits exactly are.
Thanks A Million!
If you’ve gotten to this part of the this About Me section I want to say a heartfelt thanks a million to you for being here.

I appreciate the time you took out of your day to read about me.
I am here as a guide and a friend. I try to respond to every email I receive and love hearing your stories too.
I am always open to feedback and questions that could inspire a new blog post that could help others.
It would be amazing if this blog could become a safe community for others to share their experience and provide helpful tips to all of us, as we are all in this together.
But now…enough talk...let’s get a motherf***ing set in!
*Short disclaimer
