Let me guide you to the best and cheapest home gym setup you can get for a small space, such as a one car garage or spare bedroom…all on a budget of $1,500!
I have had a small one car garage gym for a long time now. You can pack in a lot, if you purchase right the first time around and keep in mind that equipmen you get either needs to be versatile or compact.
So with that in mind, here is my list of the Best Budget Home Gym in 2023.
1. TItan T-3 Series Folding Power Rack
Compact pieces of equipment are vital for you to be able to utilize every little bit of space you have available to you.
So…to allow you to do just that, my first pick is this incredible Titan T-3 Series Folding Power Rack for $379.99 that will give you back your floors space when not in use.
When not in use, you can simply fold it neatly away against the wall that it is attached to.
However, when unfolded and in use, the rack stands at 82in tall and is 21in deep.
Simply pull a few pins, unfold it, pop the pins back in and lock it in place by attaching the top pull-up back, all in less then a minute.
Now you have a sturdy power rack to work with and to do all your usual exercises you would perform in a standard rack.
And as a bonus, it even comes with a pair of padded J-Hooks.
2. Titan T-3 Series Spotter Arms
Whenever you work in a rack, alone or otherwise, you always want to make sure you are safe.
So a pair of spotter arms is essential for your safety…always!
Make sure you pick up a pair of these Titan T-3 Series Spotter Arms which attach perfectly to your new Titan T-3 Series Folding Power Rack mentioned above.
These spotter arms are padded, so when you do have to drop the bar and let the spotters catch it for you, you are sure to not wake up the whole house or your neighbors, compared to other types of spotter arms which are simply bare metal (like mine right now…).
At 28in long with a spotter safety area of 20.75in and 11.5in tall, they are not cheap at $114.99, but safety seldom is and they are in my opinion essential, so don’t cheap out on these.
3. Titan Economy Olympic Barbell
If you have read my 9 Best Home Gym Equipment For Beginners article, you know how much I think a barbell is the very best piece of equipment you can own.
In particular this Titan Economy Olympic Barbell for just $119.99 which is truly unbeatable for that price.
At this value, you are getting a 20kg olympic barbell that can hold up to 700lb, which lets be honest…is a lot more than most people can deadlift.
Its knurling is also done just right, to allow you to get a good grip when sweating.
Highly recommended when looking to start a home gym on a budget and is a solid investment for sure.
4. Titan Olympic Spring Clips
This goes without saying, but you need some bar collars if you want to make sure the weight stays on the bar when you lift it.
Some people don’t put them on, but I am not one of them and you shouldn’t be one of them either.
You can get a pair for less than $20 bucks so don’t cheap out now and just get a pair. You’ll thank me for it later.
5. Titan Silver Series Cast Iron Olympic Plates
No way around it, but you will need some weight plates if you want to workout with your bar.
A full set will set you back a lot of money and for the start at least, cast iron weight plates will be your best friend, as these generally are the cheaper weight plates you can get.
Titan has some very nice Silver Series Cast Iron Olympic plates starting at $19.99 for 2.5lb and going up to $79.99 ($59.97 on sale) for 45lb.
You’ll need to decide how much weight you want to buy at the start, but I would begin a budget home gym with 2x 45lb ($79.99 / $59.97) and 2x 25lb ($99.99 / $79.97).
As I said in other articles before, there is no shame in building up to a full set when the budget is tight.
6. PowerBlock EXP Adjustable Dumbbell
Don’t EVER get fooled into buying the spin-lock dumbbells, even if they come in handy at the beginning.
You are spending money on dumbbells that you will simply need to spend again when you finally realize that you actually need better dumbbells..
So save yourself the hassle and especially the money, and invest in the very best adjustable dumbbell on the market today!
The PowerBlock EXP adjustable dumbbell currently retails on Amazon for only $394.69 and are by far my favorite dumbbells ever.
They come in 3 stages, and the stage 1, which is the base model shown here, is able to allow you to quickly switch the weight from 5lb all the way to 50lb.
The stage 2 expansion kit will allow you to go up to 70lb and stage 3 will max this dumbbell out at 90lb.
The very first time I used it at a friend's home gym, I was green with envy and am saving up to purchase a pair myself very soon.
The brilliant space saving aspect is a massive bonus to this set of dumbbells, especially when you take into consideration the cost of single dumbbells and the space they take up in your gym.
With its incredible small footprint, these dumbbells are a no brainer for any home gym and should be the only dumbbell to consider.
7. Titan Incline Bench V3
A bench will allow you to make the most of your upper body workout and having one that is able to include, will provide you with even more options again, compared to a standard flat bench.
My personal top pick when you are on a tight budget is the Titan Incline V3 for $159.99.
It’s very stable when performing even heavy lifts, has a pop pin mechanism that allows you to simply adjust the bench to any position you want and has wheels that allow you to move it out of the way when not in use, giving you back some floor space.
The padding on the bench isn't super tick, but it will certainly be more comfortable then the cheap $100 benches you can find elsewhere online.
8. Titan Speed Rope
A completely undervalued piece of equipment for any home gym with limited space is the jump rope.
Spend a few minutes jumping around with the Titan Speed Rope which is only $29.99 and you will see the sweat just pumping off you.
So for under $30, you will be able to get an amazing cardio workout, without having to invest in a bike, or a treadmill, which both will all take up some valuable space in your gym.
So put on the Rocky tunes and get to it.
9. SERTT Weigth Cable Pulley System
The SERTT Weigth Cable Pulley System is one of the best priced and reviewed pulley systems on Amazon right now.
I have used it myself in the past and was very happy with it.
It’s not to be confused with a cable machine and you shouldn’t expect it to replace one either.
Instead see it for what it is, a pulley system that will do the job on a budget and will do it very well in fact.
At $65.99 you can add a cable pulley system to your home gym that takes up a minimal amount of space and allows you to do several exercises that you need a cable for.
The set even comes with a great selection of accessories, such as a bar and a rope for cable curls, or triceps pushdowns, and even has two handles so you can perform pec flys.
You get the straps to attach it to your rack, 6 buckles, a loading pin for olympic size plates, 3 different length steel cables, 2 pulleys and a bag where you can keep it all together in, nice and compact which is ideal for when you are working in a tight space and need to keep things neat.
What more can you ask for at $65.99!
Summary
So lets total this all up and see if we reached our target of staying below $1,500…
Total: $1,425.56
All this will easily fit in a one car garage or a bedroom and you can build some serious muscle with these pieces to start with.
